Library and Educational Facilities Architectural Trends of 2022
Many academic planners predicted that the Internet would lead to the demise of the library as we know it. On the contrary, patronage at many university libraries has climbed dramatically in recent years.
Libraries are constantly striving to improve and create excellent places for both patrons and employees. Technology is always changing, and because there are so many aspects to library architecture, library interiors are always altering. Some of the most recent trends in Davao Library Design and Architecture have been motivated by both technology and architecture.
1. Open Spaces that are Light and Airy
These types of places are being prioritized in the design of new and existing libraries. The demand for greater natural light and views to the outside has been spurred by sustainable practices and the broader trend toward healthier living.
Increase the size of your windows or add new ones to get more light. Depending on the exposure of the façade, you may need to consider shading devices. Reduce the number of permanent or full-height internal partitions. Increase the number of inside windows to bring more light into the structure while also providing for sound isolation. Many more options are available from CP Design and Architecture to create light and airy open areas.
2. Unrestricted Flexible Spaces
Many facets of successful library design and growing demands are aided by designing rooms with flexibility in mind. Consider reducing the number of fixed PC stations and increasing the number of laptop or iPad® dispensers. This frees up room for powered study tables, which can be used by a broader spectrum of patrons, including those who bring their own devices (make sure WiFi is available and working well throughout the library). To create spaces without walls, use furniture and shelving. Lower shelves will aid in both patron navigation and staff oversight.
3. Power Everywhere
Power requirements are increasing across the board and are a key design factor. Because of evolving technology, the areas where devices are utilized are always changing, creating a necessity for numerous types of power access in the library as well. Power outlets could be installed on powered tables, powered lounge furniture, charging stations, and wireless charging stations.
Planning for power and data infrastructure is critical for keeping up with increasing demands in a cost-effective manner, whether repairing or creating new ones.
4. Furniture Styles
There is a wide range of furniture trends, but here are some frequent solutions we've used in our recent library designs. Sit-to-stand tables and study carts are making their way from the office to the library. Patrons, students, and employees who work or study for long periods of time like to stand for a portion of that time. Trust Davao Architecture Firms, they are experts in this field.
The most popular are study tables, metal shelving, and lounge seats. In conference rooms, flip-top mobile tables are replacing folding-leg tables, allowing one person to easily set up the entire room. Study pods, also known as lounge carrels, are becoming increasingly popular in university libraries because they provide semi-private, focused work places inside a larger environment.
These are just a handful of the library Architecture Design Trend we're witnessing. It is excellent that the role of libraries in their communities is expanding and evolving to better serve their users. The team at CP Design and Architecture has seen it all. Some of these concepts have been implemented in recent projects, while others have not. Prior blogs can be found here if you want to learn more about our previous initiatives.
